Brake Rotors for Scion XB
Scion XB Brake Rotors aren't "rotors" in the strict sense. In fact, they're actually the "disks" referred to in the description "disk brakes." In tandem with the brake calipers, they work in basically the same way as bicycle brakes. Activated by a special pressurized hydraulic fluid and usually assisted by a small motor, these calipers clamp down on either side of the rotors with considerable force.
Friction is created by the brake pads, which cover the surfaces of the rotors. Otherwise, the metal calipers would be digging into the bare metal surface of the rotor.
Periodically - about every 100,000 miles or so - you'll need to service your brake pads, because they will eventually wear out. When this is done, it's a good idea to have those Scion XB Brake Rotors professionally resurfaced by a qualified machinist, who can restore the surface by shaving off a razor-thin layer. If your rotor has somehow been damaged - cracked or warped - there is nothing that can be done, however. You'll need new ones - and we're the place to get them.
