Brake Pads for BMW 525
How often do you change your BMW 525 brake pads? Your 525 brake pads are made specifically to wear down. This is not because car manufacturers want you to bankrupt yourself on BMW 525 brake pads. Your 525 brake pads perform a special function in your car's disc braking system.
You will find BMW 525 brake pads mounted on both sides of each of your brake rotors, floating on top of your U-shaped brake calipers. When you step on your brakes, the calipers hold your 525 brake pads against the brake rotors.
Contact between the brake rotors and the BMW 525 brake pads generates friction, which your car uses to stop the rotational motion of the wheels and come to a safe and controlled halt. Over time, the frictional lining of your 525 brake pads wears away. When the thickness of the lining on your BMW 525 brake pads drops below a certain point, the metal backing is exposed and this metal grinds against your rotors, which causes damage. Depending on the type of 525 brake pads you have installed on your car, they may be causing excess wear on your rotors regardless of the lining thickness. There are two main types of BMW 525 brake pads: metallic and organic. Organic 525 brake pads are "soft" and easy on your rotors. Metallic BMW 525 brake pads, though they last longer and provide more stopping power than organic brake pads, wear down your rotors much faster. Since your brakes are so important to maintain, it is important to change your 525 brake pads and brake rotors whenever they are worn. You will find a complete line of BMW 525 brake pads and rotors in our extensive online catalogue.
